If the Philadelphia Eagles do the opposite of targeting a CB with the 12th overall pick, instead drafting a WR like Jaylen Waddle or DeVonta Smith, using a potential trade-up to land an elite cornerback prospect would be the appropriate secondary reaction.

Amidst all the hype that’s surrounded the likes of Patrick Surtain II, Jaycee Horn, and Caleb Farley, Greg Newsome II is a prospect who’s found himself a tad underrated when it comes to discussing CB prospects in this year’s draft class.

A 6-1, 190lbs defensive back who can play on the outside, Newsome II has the exact type of build that is causing someone like Jaycee Horn to fly up the rankings when it comes to Eagles mock drafts. “The Draft Network” had the following to say about Newsome in their scouting report on the Northwestern CB:

"Greg Newsome II is an exciting cornerback prospect who will offer an NFL franchise plenty of appeal as a potential starter on the perimeter. Newsome II has showcased strong ball skills and length to pair with high-end levels of flexibility and functional athleticism—that’s a blend that is going to get Newsome II drafted sooner rather than later."

Pairing up Newsome II alongside Darius Slay would give the Eagles an above average set of outside corners for the 2021 season, while simultaneously providing the team with a future CB1 that can be groomed under Slay until his contract expires.

Teams like Indianapolis (21), Tennessee (22), and Pittsburgh (23) are all expected to be interested in Newsome II during this year’s draft, so the Eagles would likely have to move all the way up into the top 20 if they really want to land him.
