The Eagles should still target a LB in the draft.

The addition of Anthony Harris earlier this offseason likely allows the Philadelphia Eagles to stave off drafting a “Rodney McLeod replacement” for at least another season, but the addition of Eric Wilson shouldn’t have the same effect on the Eagles’ linebacker situation. Howie Roseman would be wise to still do his best to land some sort of MLB later this month.

Like mentioned in the previous slide, Wilson doesn’t really solve the Eagles’ issues at MLB, and they don’t have the internal roster candidates to groom into that position. Even if it’s just with a third or a fourth round pick, bringing in an impact-level athlete at the position would do wonders for the team’s run defense moving forward.

Wilson doesn’t turn 27 until late September, so it’s very possible that he turns into a multi-year player for the Eagles moving forward should he have a good 2021 season, but the front office shouldn’t count on it. We all thought guys like Will Parks, NRC, and Jordan Howard would turn into multi-year starters – we were very wrong.

Whether they decide to play Wilson on the inside or the outside in 2021, drafting his replacement (or someone to start alongside him this season!) should be a priority during this year’s upcoming draft.

Do the Philadelphia Eagles need to formally commit to Jalen Hurts?. dark. Next

Ultimately speaking (as I’m sure you may have been able to tell), I’m not as big of a fan of this signing as other writers are. Wilson is a fine player who gives the Eagles some flexibility when it comes to guarding tight ends in the open field. However, his inability to consistently tackle and the fact that the rest of the NFL seemingly passed up on signing him for cheap are major red flags to me. Similar to Robey-Coleman or Will Parks, I wouldn’t be super surprised if Wilson doesn’t end up an impact player for Philadelphia this season.

Final verdict on the signing?  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
