The Philadelphia Phillies offense was not as dominant as their pitching.

Now, on to the offense.

The offense didn’t come out as hot as I thought they might this season. Andrew Knapp is responsible for the only home run of the weekend, and the Phillies only scored nine runs this weekend. The offense will have to score more runs to keep this team winning.

The one part of the offense which I hope to remain constant all season is their ability to hit in the clutch. Alec Bohm, Jean Segura, and Rhys Hoskins all came in the clutch when their team needed it this weekend.

This lineup is fully capable of picking each other up when needed, which is an essential quality to have on a winning baseball team.

I’m not worried about the offense’s production over the course of the season. They will hit a lot of home runs and score a lot of runs. If they can avoid getting caught looking at strike three as much as they did this weekend, these hitters will eventually start to take off.

What I learned this weekend is that this will be a fun season, and one that will hopefully erase the pain of a playoff drought spanning a decade long. With every professional baseball team, there will be high points and low points. Starting the season on a high note is not unfamiliar territory for the Philadelphia Phillies in recent years, but it is up to them to keep it going through the summer.
