Ifeatu Melifonwu, Syracuse

A 6-2, 212lbs monster on the outside, Ifeatu Melifonwu would make up for all of the severely undersized corners that the Philadelphia Eagles played last year. After watching Maddox and NRC get “mossed” play after play, I wouldn’t blame Roseman in the slightest if he simply targeted the tallest corner possible in the second round.

Melifonwu’s college production wasn’t the best, but he has the physical tools and the longterm potential to develop into a really good NFL corner on the outside. Similar to Stokes, he projects to operate best in a zone scheme, which (as previously stated) is what everyone expects the Eagles to run in 2021.

Melifonwu is also a willing tackler, something the Eagles secondary could use more of following the departures of Malcolm Jenkins and Jalen Mills in back-to-back offseasons.

While Melifonwu might not make the greatest of impacts during the 2021 season due to his overall rawness, the upside that he possesses makes him well worth a look at in the second round. If he develops the way scouts think he will, he could eventually slide into Philly’s CB1 role.

Regardless of if the Eagles take a cornerback in the second round or not, they should definitely be doing their homework on CB prospects this offseason. Their secondary depth is noticeably thin at the moment, and Slay isn’t getting any younger.
