No such thing as a bad one-year deal.

As I previously referenced, Harris wasn’t great for the Vikings in 2020. In fact, he leaned more towards the “bad” side of things then he did the “good.”

There’s plenty of areas you can point the blame on: bad defensive line, bad players around him, poor coaching, but ultimately speaking it was still a step backwards for the veteran safety. Harris’ allowed passer rating when targeted jumped up 73.9 total points from 44.2 to 118.1, and he allowed a career-high four TDs.

Harris did post a career-best 104 tackles in 2020, as the Vikings relied on him as a playmaker all over the place, but his coverage metrics in general plummeted across the board.

With all that said, the Philadelphia Eagles were lucky enough to land the former UDFA on a one-year deal. If Harris excels under Gannon in 2021, the Eagles will have the opportunity to re-sign him, or gather a compensatory pick off him in free agency. If he continues to struggle like he did in 2020, then the team can simply let him walk the following offseason – no big deal.

Next. Anthony Harris can fix the Philadelphia Eagles’ pick problems. dark

Sometimes it’s hard not to overhype any and all free agent signings, especially when the Philadelphia Eagles hadn’t made any significant moves up until now. However, Harris definitely has the makings of a “steal.” I can’t say I saw a single website/reporter linking the ex-Viking to the Eagles this offseason, and he’s certainly better than the likes of Marcus Epps or Andrew Adams.

As long as Harris doesn’t go full “Nickell Robey-Coleman mode” on us this season, he should be a solid starter in 2021.
