Marcus Mariota

2020 Team: Las Vegas Raiders

If the Philadelphia Eagles reported commitment to Hurts is just one giant puff of smoke, bringing in someone like Marcus Mariota would arguably be the best way to create healthy competition this offseason (outside of drafting a new QB with the sixth overall pick of course).

Mariota struggled as a starter towards the end of his tenure with the Tennessee Titans, but has seemingly drummed up some attention for himself this offseason after a good performance with the Raiders this past season.

At just 27 years of age, there’s definitely a sense around the league that Mariota could still be in the developmental stages of his playing career.

The tricky part to acquiring Mariota is his contract, as he’s still currently on the hook for $10.6 million in 2021. The Raiders could end up releasing the former Oregon QB if no trade partners are found, but landing him via a trade would require the Eagles clearing up cap space that they don’t realistically have.

Mariota is definitely the most talented “backup” QB still available, but bringing him in would create a proper QB controversy alongside Hurts – something that ruined the team’s 2020 season.

Next. Philadelphia Eagles: Derek Barnett just made himself a lot of money today. dark

Regardless, the Eagles need to find themselves a veteran backup at some point this offseason. Funds are tight and resources are limited, but having that experienced voice in a QB room is arguably one of the more important pieces to a young quarterback’s development these days.
