Geno Smith

2020 Team: Seattle Seahawks

Another tenured veteran who would enter the organization with little drama attached, Geno Smith makes sense as a fairly affordable option.

Smith never really worked out as a starting QB during his early days with the New York Jets, but he’s recently found a niche for himself as a valuable backup for the Seattle Seahawks. Smith also had himself a brief stint with the Chargers back in 2018, which gives him a connection to the Eagles newly hired offensive coordinator, Shane Steichen.

There’s still a good chance that Geno will just ultimately sign back with Seattle should they end up running things back with Russell Wilson, but Roseman could also lure Smith to Philadelphia with the idea of there being a bit of an “open competition” at the QB position. All reports thus far have signaled that the Eagles want to fully commit to Jalen Hurts this offseason, but there’s no guarantee that the second-year QB will last the full season.

If Hurts struggles early on in 2021, Smith could totally find himself in a situation where he’d be getting some starter reps – a chance to seriously boost his value.

Ultimately speaking though, bringing in Smith would be another low-risk, drama-free move for Roseman and Co.
