Philadelphia Eagles: 3 *cheap* free agent WRs worth giving a contract
By David Esser
John Brown
2020 Team: Buffalo Bills
I’m not exactly sure what John Brown‘s market will look like this offseason, but seeing as players are being cut left and right as teams attempt to get under the lowered salary cap, my guess is that he won’t be getting any crazy offers this spring.
Prior to the arrival of Stefon Diggs this past season, Brown was WR1 in Buffalo. He put up 72 catches and 1,060 yards in 2019, really doing a fantastic job of stretching the field for Josh Allen at the time.
2020 likely still would have been a productive year for Brown even with the addition of Diggs, but the veteran wideout battled injuries all season long. He injured his calf in Week 3, sprained his ankle in Week 10, and got sent to the COVID-19 list in late December.
Brown returned late in the season and even had himself an eight-catch performance in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, but was ultimately released by the Bills as a casualty of the cap.
While there still might be a market for Brown due to his past success in 2019, my guess is that he would think long and hard about coming to the Philadelphia Eagles on a one-year deal to “reset his value” in a sense. Not only would he see a fair number of targets in Philly due to their below average WR room, but his veteran leadership could even see him earn a second contract later down the road if him and Jalen Hurts end up developing a good connection.
