Philadelphia Eagles 7-round mock draft: Justin Fields falls to sixth overall
By David Esser
The Philadelphia Eagles select…
It’s not Ja’Marr Chase, DeVonta Smith, or Jaylen Waddle, but it’s an upgrade at the WR position nevertheless. A three-year starter at Clemson, Amari Rodgers would come in and instantly be the Eagles best overall slot receiver.
Standing in at 5-9, 210lbs but with a ton of speed, Rodgers almost looks like a running back when he plays. The former Tiger is fantastic once he gets the ball in his hands, and he had a lot of success at Clemson when given “manufactured” touches – end arounds, WR screens, etc.
Rodgers is coming off a 1,000+ yard senior season in 2020, and would be a solid go-to target for Justin Fields over the middle of the field during his rookie year.
A former quarterback turned linebacker at UNC, Chazz Surratt projects to be more of an outside linebacker at the professional level, which isn’t exactly what the Philadelphia Eagles need when it comes to assessing their weak LB core (they need a true inside MLB). However, like I discussed with the Moehrig pick in the second round, the Eagles need talent above all else, and Surratt is a very talented player.
A two-year starter for the Tar Heel defense in 2019 and 2020, Surratt racked up 207 tackles, 22.5 TFLs, 12.5 sacks, and two interceptions. His tackling is fairly above average for someone who’s just 6-1, 225lbs, while his ability to read routes and drop into pass coverage is highly praised (likely due to his days as a quarterback).
Surratt could easily step in as a day one starting outside linebacker for the Eagles, especially with Nate Gerry set to depart in free agency.
