3 late-round WRs the Philadelphia Eagles should keep their eyes on
By David Esser
Trevon Grimes, Florida
A different build of receiver compared to the two previously mentioned, Trevon Grimes stands in at an impressive 6-4, 217lbs. A slower pass-catcher who excels in jump ball type situations, Grimes has the makings of someone who could thrive as a backup “X” receiver.
Grimes’ college numbers aren’t terribly impressive, but he did record a career-high nine receiving TDs with the Gators last season, which is really a testament to his ability to operate as a valuable Red Zone target.
With JJ Arcega-Whiteside’s Philadelphia Eagles career all but done and dusted at this point in time, snagging Grimes in the sixth or seventh round would be a quick and easy way to replace the former Stanford wideout in run-heavy formations. Grimes is a willing blocker due to his above average size, and likely has more longterm potential than JJAW at this point in time.
Grimes doesn’t really have the makings of someone who can develop into a starting WR anytime soon, but depth is obviously super important. The Eagles of all teams should know this too well.
Grimes also played alongside Philadelphia native Kyle Pitts at Florida, who the Eagles have presumably been scouting quite a bit over the last few weeks. If Grimes stands out to the scouting department while watching Pitts’ tape, grabbing him towards the end of the draft definitely makes sense.
