Vernon Hargreaves III

The 11th overall pick back in 2016, Vernon Hargreaves III has had an up and down career as an NFL corner. Things didn’t really work out for him in Tampa Bay, ultimately resulting in his release midway through the 2019 season. Hargreaves III was scooped up by Houston via the waiver wire, released after the season ended, but then re-signed once more heading into 2020.

Hargreaves started all 16 games for the Texans this past season, and while he wasn’t particularly good by any stretch of the imagination, he stayed healthy for the entire year – which has been a major problem for Philadelphia Eagles DBs over the last couple of seasons.

Set to be be just 26 years of age in June, Hargreaves III is the type of “reclamation project” that Philly should be taking a chance on as they look to rebuild and retool moving forward. There’s obviously some level of inherent talent there (he was a top-15 pick after all), it’s just about getting it out of him.

Like I’ve mentioned a handful of times in this article, Gannon was really successful in terms of developing cornerbacks in Indianapolis. If there’s anyone who could get the best out of a failed first-rounder like Hargreaves III, Gannon would be the one.

Vernon would also likely sign for the league minimum, which obviously benefits the Eagles tight financial situation.
