T.J. Carrie
The second ex-Colt to crack this list, T.J. Carries projects to be one of the most cost effective options in free agency this offseason. A seven year pro who’s spent the last three seasons as a backup, Carrie would likely welcome the opportunity to properly compete for a starting role in Philadelphia.
Going back to what I said in regards to Xavier Rhodes, bringing in Carrie is exclusively due to the presence of Jonathan Gannon. If Gannon is a fan of Carrie and believes he can continue to coach him up in the right direction, signing him to a one-year “prove it” deal would be one of those classic “low-risk/high-reward” type situations.
Outside of his connection to the Philadelphia Eagles new coaching staff, the part that really drew me to Carrie is the fact that he actually played pretty darn good when asked to sub in last year for Indy. He recorded two interceptions, eight passes defensed, and allowed a passer rating of just 78.0 when targeted.
Impressive stuff for a guy who was only able to start in two games for the Colts last year (he played in 15).
While Carrie doesn’t have the name value compared to some of the other guys on this list, he might have the most upside. He flashed genuine potential under Gannon last season, and I’m willing to take the bet that he can have another solid year with him in 2021.
