The Philadelphia Eagles select…

IDL. 54. Pick Analysis. West Virginia. Darius Stills. 151. player. Scouting Report

An underrated need for Philadelphia this offseason, beefing up the interior of the defensive line is something the Eagles are going to have to figure out. Assuming they stick to a 4-3, having that reliable DT3 is normally a pretty crucial piece to one’s defense.

A bit undersized to be a traditional 4-3 defensive tackle (280lbs), WVU’s Darius Stills still fills the void that’s currently behind Fletcher Cox and Javon Hargrave on the defensive line. Primarily used as a 3-technique in college, I envision the Eagles using Stills in a manner similar to how they attempted to employ Malik Jackson.

Sometimes as a pass-rushing DT, and sometimes as an oversized defensive end.

Scouting Report. S. Jonathan Bledsoe. 157. Pick Analysis. Missouri. player. 54

Another underrated need for the Eagles that needs addressing, the team’s safety room is starting to look noticeably bare. Jalen Mills is going to be a free agent, and Rodney McLeod is coming off his second major knee injury. Most projections have Jonathan Bledsoe pinned as a backup safety at the professional level, but he could totally end up in a starting role should the team fail to bring in any further safety depth.

A versatile defender who spent a lot of time playing in the slot at Missouri, Bledsoe is actually moderately similar to last year’s mid-round safety selection, K’Von Wallace.

While you could make the argument that the Eagles don’t need another hybrid safety/slot corner, I’d counter that with saying you can never have enough versatility in your secondary. Having Wallace and Bledsoe battle it out during training camp would also likely bring out the best in both players.
