Philadelphia Eagles 7-round mock draft: Going all in on Kyle Pitts
By David Esser
The Philadelphia Eagles select…
With the offense now completely revamped via the addition of Pitts, it’s now time to turn our attention towards the defensive side of the ball. More specifically, the secondary.
Even with the addition of Darius Slay, the Eagles secondary really, really struggled last season. Avonte Maddox was a disaster at outside corner, and Nickell Robey-Coleman was statistically one of the worst slot corners in all of football. Not only do the Eagles need to improve at CB this offseason, but they ideally need to bring in a playmaker who can take over on the outside alongside Slay.
In Eric Stokes, the Eagles get exactly that.
Listed at 6-1, 185lbs Stokes is described as being an “outside-only corner.” While lack of positional versatility is something that turns off most front offices, the Eagles really just need bodies who can be comfortable playing on the boundary 100% of the time.
Stokes isn’t the greatest of defenders in man coverage, but he’s proven to be opportunistic in zone schemes where he’s allowed to read and react. He logged four interceptions in 2020, really paving the way for the Georgia defense.
Reading up on Stokes he actually reminded me a bit of a smaller Rasul Douglas – a player who the Eagles are kicking themselves for cutting last offseason.
