5 free agents that could still be of interest to the Philadelphia Phillies

Cole Hamels, LHP
Another quick and easy rotation upgrade that the Phillies could pull the trigger on if they’re not liking what they’re seeing from Moore and Anderson, the “Cole Hamels returns to Philly” storyline is one that has been brooding for roughly three years now.
He’s not nearly as sure of a thing as Jake Odorizzi, especially when you take into account the fact that he pitched just 3.1 innings in 2020, but he’s still Cole Hamels at the end of the day. He posted a 3.81 ERA across 141.2 innings back in 2019, which would have him a notch above the likes of Zach Eflin when it comes to the Phillies’ rotational pecking order.
At this stage in the offseason, it doesn’t appear Hamels has a ton of realistic suitors out there. His old age and recent injury history are likely turning teams off, which means he could be had at a fairly cheap price when it’s all said and done.
While it’s unknown just how healthy he is compared to his disastrous 2020 season, adding Hamels on a cheap one-year deal right before the season kicks off is the type of savvy move that could push the Phillies over the hump in 2021. If Hamels end up looking anything like his 2019 self, the Phillies would have themselves 3-4 super reliable starters in their rotation.
