Ryan Fitzpatrick

Another free agent quarterback entering an offseason where he’s expected to garner a bit of “starting QB” interest, Ryan Fitzpatrick is a player that would likely out-battle Jalen Hurts for QB1 duties in Philadelphia. This reality might ultimately steer Roseman away from bringing in the veteran journeyman, but Fitz is an option nevertheless.

Coming off a 2020 season where he actually got to start seven games for the Miami Dolphins, Fitzpatrick outperformed by most people’s standards. He went 4-3 as a starter, and posted a career-high completion percentage of 68.5%.

Despite Tua Tagovaloia being a first round pick, plenty of people in Miami were calling for Fitzpatrick to be the team’s starter again by the end of the season.

In my opinion, pushing hard for someone of Fitzpatrick’s caliber would translate a direct lack of faith in Hurts as a starter in 2021. Fitz has been outspoken that he views himself as a starting caliber player at the moment, and he seems to have a way with getting wide receivers to favor his style of play.

Maybe Fitz hypothetically coming in and beating out Hurts for the starting gig is a good thing, maybe it’s not. Ultimately speaking, I’d be mildly shocked if this is the route Roseman ends up going.
