Mickey Moniak, OF

Mickey Moniak made his major league debut last season, and while it was nothing spectacular, the former #1 overall pick definitely showed signs of genuine potential. His batting average (.214) was below what you’d expect from a first round pick, but his ability to be patient at the plate and ultimately get on base (.389 OBP) is something that will always have a place in the MLB.

Moniak had his name floated around in some potential trade rumors earlier this offseason, which might signal that Dombrowski doesn’t value the young outfielder all that much in the grand scheme of things. However, Moniak is still on the roster, and will ultimately get a chance to prove his worth as a rotational outfielder this spring.

Joe Girardi’s go-to man out in center field last season was Roman Quinn, and that’s something that ideally needs to change in the near future. While Quinn is definitely a weapon on the base paths due to his speed, his inconsistencies at the plate and out in the field are just too much to stomach at times.

If Moniak can come in and really have a dominant spring – both defensively and offensively – he could be in line to replace Quinn as the first outfielder off the bench in 2021.
