Philadelphia Eagles: 5 former Colts to keep an eye on this offseason
By David Esser
T.Y. Hilton, WR
By FAR the least likely option on this list, I struggle to see a scenario where T.Y. Hilton is accepting a vet. minimum contract this offseason. With that said, he’s a former Colts player with a major connection to the Philadelphia Eagles new-look coaching staff, so he’s worth mentioning.
Once upon a time Hilton was regarded as one of the best receivers in all of football. However, back-to-back years of injuries have really derailed the back-end of his career, leaving him as second/third option in the Colts offense.
Even with Hilton creeping up on 32 years of age this upcoming season, the veteran wideout would still be a major addition to the Philadelphia Eagles abysmal receiving room. Not only would he provide a much-needed veteran presence to an otherwise young position group, but he’d arguably be the most talented receiver Wentz has gotten to work with since being drafted.
With that said, there’s a point to be made about the Eagles needing to get younger moving forward, and that entrusting yet another veteran WR to stay healthy is a bad idea. It’s a good point, and one that will likely limit any sort of real interest between the two parties.
Ultimately speaking, I think Hilton will either remain in Indy or take a bigger contract elsewhere. Hard to see a pathway to him ending up in Philly.
Linebacker Anthony Walker is another name worth keeping an eye on. More on that here: “Philadelphia Eagles: Anthony Walker is THE name to watch in free agency.”
