Xavier Rhodes, CB

In 2019, Xavier Rhodes was arguably the worst corner in the entire NFL. Opposing quarterbacks had a passer rating of 123.8 when targeting him, and he routinely got beat over the top due to an overall lack of speed and athleticism. It was a really brutal season for Rhodes, one that left his options limited in the offseason (after the Vikings opted against re-signing him, for obvious reasons).

Rhodes settled on a one-year deal with the Colts, and Jonathan Gannon (former Colts DB coach, now Eagles DC) worked his magic.

The veteran corner had a major bounce back season in Indianapolis, and ultimately ended up being one of the Colts more reliable players on defense. He allowed just 52.4% of passes thrown his way to be completed, and his opposing QB passer rating dropped all the way down to 84.6.

Coming off such a strong season, my guess is that Rhodes will be hunting a deal far more lucrative than what the Philadelphia Eagles could offer him. Like previously mentioned, the Eagles will likely free up the money for a handful of vet. minimum type contracts, but they won’t be able to afford much more than that.

However, if Rhodes finds himself unable to land a big-time payday, re-uniting with the coach (Gannon) who rejuvenated his career would make a lot of sense. Rhodes would likely be allowed to start alongside Darius Slay on the outside, and his familiarity with Gannon’s scheme could help him produce yet another productive season as he continues to hunt for that big contract.
