Trey Burton, TE

I mean, it’s Trey Burton. Do I even need to right a little blurb on why the Philadelphia Eagles could be interested in him this offseason?

The man who orchestrated the pass during the “Philly Special”, Burton really made a name for himself during his time with the Eagles. A hybrid WR/TE coming out of college, Burton found a home for himself on the Eagles depth chart as a TE3/TE4 during the Chip Kelly days.

Like everyone else on the Eagles offense in 2017, Burton really exploded onto the scene during that iconic Super Bowl winning season. He caught five TD passes, and formed a noticeably strong on-field connection with Carson Wentz.

After a brief stint with the Bears in 2018 and 2019, Burton reunited with former OC Frank Reich, but really failed to land himself a consistent role in the Colts offense. Now an unrestricted free agent coming off a season where he only caught 28 passes, he could definitely be scooped up for cheap.

Assuming the Eagles will in fact be trading Zach Ertz this offseason (all signs still point to that happening), the Eagles have an underrated need at tight end. The Colts ran quite a bit of 12-personnel under Nick Sirianni, and my guess is he’d like to see that continue in Philadelphia.

Burton on a veteran minimum, one-year deal would be a decent stop gap until the team finds a more permanent option behind Dallas Goedert.
