Philadelphia Eagles 7-round mock draft: New head coach…new QB?
By David Esser
The Philadelphia Eagles select…
Another underrated need for Philly – the backup running back position. Boston Scott is a restricted free agent, so there’s no guarantee that he’ll be back next season, and even then the team would likely want another young back to throw into the mix.
Boyd is a big, powerful runner when it comes to his style of ball-carrying, which is definitely something the Eagles have lacked since Jordan Howard’s injury woes began in 2019. His 6-0, 213lbs frame would be a welcome change-up alongside the likes of Miles Sanders.
Boyd is also a decent receiver for someone of his size, an added element to his game.
Some more defensive end depth to round out the mock draft, Michael Clemons is an inconsistent pass-rusher with some wicked long arms. His above average reach combined with his 6-5, 270lbs frame make him a worthwhile pick in the seventh round.
The type of guy who could benefit from a year or two on the practice squad should he fail to overly impress in training camp.
If I’m being completely honest, this isn’t the greatest of mock drafts. The Eagles walk away with zero linebackers, zero safeties, and only one offensive lineman. All are major positions of needs, and it’s going to be tough for Philly to address them in the offseason without using the draft. With that said, Philly walks away with a new franchise quarterback in this scenario, something that could (in theory) spark the team back into a positive trending rebuild.
