Philadelphia Eagles 7-round mock draft: New head coach…new QB?
By David Esser
The Philadelphia Eagles select…
Considering just how poor the Philadelphia Eagles receiving game was in 2020 (and 2019 for that matter), doubling up on the position makes sense, especially when you take into account a new rookie QB needing weapons to target.
Standing in at 6-2, 186lbs, Ihmir Smith-Marsette has been praised for his “smooth” approach to route running. His lack of strength and physicality makes him a poor option on the outside, but he projects to be a decent enough slot receiver at the professional level.
Considering the fact that Reagor and Olave are the Eagles’ outside WRs in this scenario, having Smith-Marsette battle it out with someone like Quez Watkins in training camp for the starting slot role would be an ideal situation.
Another position worth doubling up on, the Philadelphia Eagles cornerback depth has been a constant problem since 2018. They were forced to start UDFA Michael Jacquet in a must-win game against the Dallas Cowboys this year, and the results were hilariously disastrous.
Troy Dean III is an extremely physical, 6-3 corner who thrives in press techniques and zone coverage. His lanky physique makes him vulnerable in true man coverage, especially over the top, but he’s a promising athlete who could potentially even take some snaps at free safety in a deep zone.
A worthwhile investment in the later rounds due to his size alone.
