Philadelphia Eagles 7-round mock draft: New head coach…new QB?
By David Esser
The Philadelphia Eagles select…
With neither Chase nor Smith ending up in midnight green back in the first round, the decision to take a receiver in the second round was a pretty easy one to make. New quarterback withstanding, the Philadelphia Eagles still had one of the worst performing wide receiver groups in the NFL last season – they desperately need some help here.
Coming out of Ohio State, Chris Olave has been described as a route running technician during his time playing at the collegiate level. He thrives due to the natural separation that he creates, which is a trait that’s becoming increasingly more valued around NFL front offices.
Olave isn’t your prototypical “X” receiver nor is he a natural fit in the slot, in all reality he pretty much projects to play the same position that Jalen Reagor played in 2020 (Z).
With that said, the Eagles passed on Justin Jefferson due to a perceived sense of “poor scheme fit”, and it ultimately came back to bite them in the end. Olave gets open, and he provides Zach Wilson (in this scenario) with a legit weapon to throw to on the outside. Forget Reagor for the moment, Olave would be a welcome addition to an otherwise miserable WR room.
*UPDATE: Chris Olave has opted to return to Ohio State for another season… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ *
