Javon Hargrave

If I’m being completely honest, I don’t really understand why the Philadelphia Eagles rushed to sign Javon Hargrave this past offseason. The team already had two highly paid defensive tackles in Fletcher Cox and Malik Jackson, they needed to add at multiple other positions, and Hargrave played an entirely different scheme in Pittsburgh.

Regardless, Roseman handed Hargrave a massive, backloaded contract last offseason – and now it’s going to have to be spread out via a restructure.

Hargrave is on the books for $15.2 million in 2021 and $15.4 million in 2022. Neither are reasonable figures considering Hargrave’s less-than-stellar play this past season, and the Eagles are going to have to get both of those numbers down when it’s all said and done.

Luckily, Hargrave is on the younger side when it comes to the Eagles roster. He’ll turn 28 in February, making an extension relatively reasonable. Roseman and the Eagles could tack on another year or two to Hargrave’s current deal, keeping him with the team until his mid/early 30s while simultaneously getting his cap figures down for the upcoming seasons.

Hopefully as Hargrave gets better accustomed to Eagles 4-3 defensive scheme he’ll start living up to that big time contact a little better.
