Trading up for Penei Sewell.

I’m extremely against the Philadelphia Eagles taking a left tackle with their first-round pick, and I wouldn’t draft Penei Sewell even if he fell to pick #6. However, I am not in charge of the Eagles, Howie Roseman is – and Howie Roseman has shown a consistent desire to prioritize the “trenches” over everything else.

Whether it’s handing out massive contracts to free agent defensive tackles in back to back offseasons (Malik Jackson and Javon Hargrave), or trading up for Andre Dillard back in 2019, Roseman has proven time and time again that he’s willing to die behind this “line first” philosophy. Barring something drastic happening, I don’t see this mindset going away come draft night this spring.

Plenty of scouts and analysts have Sewell pinned as a “generational talent” coming out of this year’s draft. Considering the fact that Howie would only have to move up a few spots to draft him, it might just be too hard for him to pass up on. Andre Dillard hasn’t really played in two years and Jordan Mailata is probably better served as a backup longterm. Landing Sewell would likely be an instant upgrade at LT, and that’s a position that Roseman values over most.
