Pairing up Patrick Surtain II alongside Darius Slay.

There’s been some talk of Caleb Farley or Jaycee Horn sneaking into the top-ten, but ultimately speaking I think Patrick Surtain II is the only true top-ten “lock” when it comes to the cornerback class. His tape speaks for itself, and his status an an Alabama/SEC product will only further his value come draft night.

The Philadelphia Eagles have done a really bad job addressing their CB position in recent years, especially when it comes to landing a serviceable CB2. Darius Slay did a great job defending one side of the field this season, but it didn’t really matter when Avonte Maddox or Michael Jacquet(!) were the guys lining up alongside him. Opposing QBs simply targeted the weak link week in and week out.

In Surtain II the Eagles get themselves a formidable CB2, while also having an heir to Slay’s throne once his Philadelphia tenure wraps up. Snagging a CB in the first-round also allows Maddox to move back into the slot, a role that he is much better suited in due to his 5-9 height.

Howie Roseman hasn’t taken a defensive player in the first.round of the draft since 2017 – that might need to change this spring.
