Enrique Hernandez, INF/OF

A name that I have repeatedly mentioned this offseason, Enrique “Kike” Hernandez would fill an abundance of holes for the Philadelphia Phillies. Used as the Dodgers “hyper-utility” player the last couple of seasons, Hernandez made a name for himself as a guy who could literally play anywhere on the field. He’s played every single position in the infield (except for catcher), every single position in the outfield, and was specifically productive in the postseason as a pinch-hitter.

Considering the Phillies overall lack of roster depth, bringing in someone like Kike would kill multiple birds with one stone.

Hernandez isn’t coming off the greatest of 2020s, as his OPS dipped down to a measly .680, so it’s unknown just what type of contract he’ll be seeking. There’s a chance he cites his strong 2018 season (.806 OPS) as a reason for a starting job, or he could remain happy in a rotational role.

If we’re being completely honest, I wouldn’t even be opposed to the Phillies bringing in Keke as an everyday starter. He could play shortstop or second base for the Phils, and promising him an everyday role would likely see him take a bit of a pay cut. Worst case scenario the Phillies have an elite backup at almost every defensive position.
