Following the Jamal Adams trade that occurred this year, the New York Jets have a goofy amount of draft picks at their disposal. They also have an absurd amount of cap space, the #2 overall pick, a head coaching job that needs filling, and a general manager who used to work for the Philadelphia Eagles.

See where I’m going with this?

Whether it’s Sam Darnold or someone else at quarterback for the Jets in 2021, New York’s offense despreftaly needs a go-to weapon of sorts. They tried to make it Le’Veon Bell, but that didn’t work out at all. Ertz provides the Jets with a veteran pass-catcher, one who can help mold the Jets quarterback into one that doesn’t rank at the bottom of the league moving forward.

Joe Douglas’ familiarity with both Howie Roseman and Zach Ertz makes him a obvious candidate when it comes to who could come calling for the star TE this offseason, and his abundance of draft picks essentially allows him to beat any offers out there. If Douglas is looking to field a competent offense in 2021, Ertz and his elite pass-catching skills would be a great first step. He gives the Jets a proper “number one receiver”, while simultaneously adding a strong veteran presence to an otherwise young and inexperienced locker room.
