Vinny Curry

Another tenured Eagle who has engrained himself within the fanbase, the front office would be wise to move off Vinny Curry as well this upcoming offseason. He’s a Super Bowl legend, but the Super Bowl was three years ago. Currently speaking, he’s just another veteran who’s eating up snaps that could be otherwise used on developing younger defensive linemen.

Curry didn’t necessarily have a *bad* year in 2020, especially considering the fact that he was brought in on a cheap deal. He logged 3.0 sacks and 10 QB hits across 11 games, even making the start on three separate occasions.

However, Curry’s presence on the roster was just another example of the organization prioritizing aging veterans over developing youngsters. Howie Roseman pretty infamously cut rookie DE Casey Toohill earlier in the year to make way for a returning Curry, a move that didn’t sit well with the fanbase considering their poor record at the time.

The Philadelphia Eagles have long employed a deep defensive line, one that can send waves and waves of pass rushers at opposing quarterbacks. That’s still a good philosophy to have, but one that needs to be spearheaded by younger talent moving forward. Set to turn 33 in June, Curry simply cannot be the longterm plan on the D-Line anymore.
