Philadelphia Eagles 7-round mock draft: Lockdown CB in the first-round
By David Esser
The Philadelphia Eagles select…
Following their two fifth-round picks, the Philadelphia Eagles are projected to have another two picks in the sixth-round. While the team honestly needs a free safety more than they need another strong safety (especially considering Rodney McLeod’s ACL tear), the opportunity to add another versatile DB to the mix is always worth capitalizing on.
A captain for Iowa State, Greg Eisworth II is valuable as an in-the-box safety option. He can drop down and provide some tackling prowess in the run game, and can drop back into coverage against some tight ends.
His man coverage skills are still pretty raw, but his ability to zap around into multiple positions is worth highlighting.
It wouldn’t be a Philadelphia Eagles draft without a defensive lineman being taking at some point!
In all seriousness, the Eagles actually have a bit of an underrated need at DT heading into 2021. Malik Jackson will likely be a cap casualty, and there’s no-one else on the roster ready to fill that DT3 role.
Coming out of Alabama, Phidarian Mathis is a 6-4, 317lbs space eater who proves useful defending against the run. He offers little to nothing on passing downs, but could be a solid option on early rush downs alongside a dominant pass-rusher like Fletcher Cox.
