Most disappointing Philadelphia Eagles: Carson Wentz

Obviously Carson Wentz had to be on this list, as he has truly had a remarkably bad season. He’s only thrown 16 touchdowns, he still leads the league in interceptions with 15, and he won just three games as a starting QB. While the circumstances around Wentz were pretty disastrous, his poor play is what ultimately led to his benching in Week 13.

Wentz’ struggles this year have context to them, as like I just mentioned the circumstances around him were pretty horrific. He was sacked a league-high 50 times through the first 12.5 weeks, and his WR play remained some of the worst in all of football. He briefly found a connection with practice squad call-up Travis Fulgham, but he was eventually banished to the shadow realm for the likes of a returning Alshon Jeffery.

A lot of people felt the Eagles offensive woes were 100% on Wentz this season, but the team’s collapse against Dallas this weekend quieted some of that talk down. The Philadelphia Eagles are a bad, bad football team – the quarterback can only do so much.

Regardless, Wentz was definitely a disappointment this season. It’s never ideal to walk away from a season unsure of who your franchise quarterback should be, and a majority of that uncertainty rests on Wentz’ poor play.
