Round 7, 228th overall

Tyreke Smith. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. EDGE. 54. Ohio State. 228. player

The Philadelphia Eagles took a stab on a late-round edge rusher in the 2020 draft, and it was initially looking like a pretty solid pick. Casey Toohill cracked the 53-man roster after an impressive training camp, and the general consensus was that he could develop into a rotational edge down the road.

Unfortunately, Howie Roseman cut Toohill in favor of Vinny Curry, allowing him to be claimed off waivers by Washington.

Here in the seventh-round of the 2021 draft, Howie gets a chance to right that wrong in way of landing Tyreke Smith. A junior out of Ohio State, Smith presents a good amount of upside as a longterm edge prospect. Smith is 6-4, 267lbs and has some athleticism to him. He’s definitely a project, but similar to the Eagles’ offensive line, they’ve done a good job developing D-Line prospects in the past.

Round 7, 253rd overall

54. Pick Analysis. Bobby Brown III. 253. Scouting Report. IDL. Texas A&M. player

With Malik Jackson likely on the way out as a cap casualty, the Philadelphia Eagles could use some more defensive tackle depth behind Fletcher Cox and Javon Hargrave.

Bobby Brown II is 6-4, 315lbs and proved to be a strong interior run defender for Texas A&M. He struggles in terms of getting to the QB on a consistent basis, and his overall motor has come into question on occasion. However, as a DT4/DT5 for the Eagles in 2021, him just staying healthy and eating up space for 2-3 snaps a game is all that’s really going to be asked of him

Ultimately speaking, this draft won’t solve all of the Philadelphia Eagles problems, but it’s a step in the right direction. They get a starting WR and LB in the first two rounds, a safety to groom behind McLeod, a backup RB, some much needed CB depth, and then all sorts of developmental pieces on the offensive and defensive line.
