Round 3, 71st overall

player. 54. Scouting Report. S. Georgia. Pick Analysis. Richard LeCounte III. 71

With Rodney McLeod’s future up in the air due to a torn ACL, and Jalen Mills (hopefully) on the way out due to his impending free agent status, the Philadelphia Eagles have a pretty underrated need at safety moving forward. K’Von Wallace looks like he has some upside, but he’s pretty exclusively an in-the-box option, he’s not someone who can consistently drop back into single-high coverage.

By adding Georgia’s Richard LeCounte II, the Eagles nab themselves a future free safety – someone who can take over McLeod’s role in 2021 and beyond.

LeCounte had four interceptions in 2019 and three in 2020, to go with seven total pass deflections  and two forced fumbles over the last two seasons as well. He’s proven more than capable dropping back in coverage, and just like Moses and Smith, he’s been doing it against elite talent in the SEC.

LeCounte III is a little on the smaller side when it comes to potentially lining up against TEs or bigger NFL WRs, and he leaves a little bit to be desired in terms of man coverage. However, his overall productive college career should be enough to warrant grabbing him in the third-round.

LeCounte III and K’Von Wallace as the Eagles’ starting safeties moving forward would be solid.
