Philadelphia Eagles: Players to watch in the Big 10 Championship game
After a nightmare season of losing offensive lineman left and right, the Philadelphia Eagles need to go back to building in the trenches. Guard is one of the positions we’ve seen the most turnover this season, as it seems like we’ve gone through every option possible. It could be time for an upgrade at that position, and that’s where Wyatt Davis comes into play.
The Buckeye guard is one of the best interior lineman heading into the NFL Draft. An All-American in 2019, Davis was set to come back for another year and play in 2020. After uncertainty with the Big 10 season, Davis originally opted out of the season to focus on the draft, but later changed his mind and opted back in and play for the Buckeyes. The decision has paid off for Davis. He came into the season as one of the best linemen in the country, and he’s solidifying himself as a clear first-round pick in the draft.
Davis is a very physical blocker who also adds a mobile trait to his game. Going up against Big 10 defensive lineman has helped Davis develop his game and become a dominant blocker in both the run and pass game. No wonder why Ohio State always has running backs find their way to the NFL; they have linemen like Davis paving the way for them.
Guard is definitely a position that will be looked at by the Philadelphia Eagles going into next season. Brandon Brooks is coming off of another Achilles tear, Isaac Seumalo also went through injuries this season, and the guys behind them are still a work in progress. If the Eagles want to upgrade at this position and add more certainty to the line, Davis should be looked at in next year’s draft.
