Who should the Philadelphia Eagles be watching in the SEC Championship game?

With three weeks left in the regular season, the Philadelphia Eagles look to start their offseason list early, as they are on pace to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2016. The season has spiraled out of control, and they have a good chance of landing a top-10 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Whatever position they target in the first round is a mystery, but there are clear holes all over this team on both sides of the ball.

The Eagles need to get this next draft right as they already don’t have a lot of cheap, young talent on their team. Their best players are older and playing on high priced contracts. The future isn’t all that bright right now, and they need to bring in young talent. To make this happen, there’s no better place to look than the SEC. With championship weekend coming up, there’s a great opportunity to scout talented football players on both the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Florida Gators.

With that, here are three players from both Alabama and Florida that the Eagles should be watching for in the SEC Championship game.

Cornerback. Crimson Tide. 829. Patrick Surtain. . player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

Patrick Surtain is one of the highest-ranked cornerbacks coming into the 2021 NFL Draft. At 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, Surtain presents the big body, physical cornerback that the Eagles desperately need for the future.

Surtain’s ability to cover the opposing team’s number one receivers and shut down one side of the field has allowed Alabama to turn around their secondary after a few down years. He’s been a starting cornerback at Alabama from the jump, as he came in his freshman year and became an immediate starter. He’s had the opportunity to go up against a lot of NFL caliber receivers during his college years and has only gotten better with experience.

Surtain has ballhawk abilities and likes to be physical and lay the wood when needed. This mentality is exactly what the Eagles need moving forward. Darius Slay is currently the only true outside cornerback that is on the roster for the foreseeable future, and he is on an expensive contract and reaching 30.

If the Eagles want to improve their secondary and gain young, cheap talent for the future, they should look into adding Surtain in the first round of the NFL Draft. There’s a long list of cornerbacks that have been successful coming out of the SEC, and Surtain is going to add himself to that list.
