Doug Pederson

I honestly hate that I’m writing this, because I think Doug has been absolutely brutal this year in terms of offensive play-calling, but it’s impossible to ignore the fact that he seems to elevate his team when things are at their worst.

Hosting the 10-2 Saints, there was simply no reason for the Philadelphia Eagles to win that football game. New Orleans have one of the best defenses in the league, and Sean Payton had routinely whooped up on Doug and Jim Schwartz in the past. However, for whatever reason, the Eagles head coach got his guys to rally around a backup quarterback and pull off the major upset.

It’s such an odd dynamic with Doug, because you’d think he’d coach better with his $100+ million franchise quarterback, but he just doesn’t. It almost feels like he enjoys the challenge of winning football games with a backup QB – bringing out the best in him as a head coach.

Whatever the case is, Doug has given us little reason to doubt him when it comes to these absurd end-of-the-year runs. He did it in 2017 with Foles, again in 2018 with Foles, and then once more in 2019 with Wentz.

Could he do it one final time with Hurts here in 2020? Sure, why not.
