Denver Broncos

Denver Broncos general manager John Elway has a long documented history of favoring a certain “type” of quarterback, and Carson Wentz just so happens to fit that mold. Throw in the fact that Drew Lock has had an abysmal 2020 season, and the signs are pointing to Denver once again bringing in a new starting QB.

Whether it was Peyton Manning, Brock Osweiler, or even Tim Tebow, Elway has historically favored big-armed, high character type guys at the QB position. Some have joked that Elway tries too hard to find players with similar play styles to his own, but that’s neither here nor there.

Similar to the Patriots, the Broncos are going to be in a bit of a weird spot come draft night. the team won’t have a top-5 pick, ruling them out of the Trevor Lawrence/Justin Fields sweepstakes. They could settle for one of the lesser prospects later in the draft, but their revamped WR core is in desperate need of an elite arm talent.

Similar to how Elway swung a deal for Peyton Manning back in 2012, the Denver executive could look to replicate that scenario by bringing Wentz to town for 2021 and beyond. Even with all of his struggles this past season, Wentz would still be a massive upgrade over Drew Lock.

Ultimately speaking, there’s zero guarantee that the Philadelphia Eagles will try to trade Wentz this summer. They could very well continue down the path of him being their franchise QB, which is an easy stance to take considering the money that he’s owed. With that said, however, a few more strong Jalen Hurts performances and it’d be hard to sell the team on turning things back over to Carson in 2021.
