Con: Prospects

The obvious concern in regards to Dave Dombrowski running your baseball team – his quick trigger finger when it comes to dealing away prospects.

While this narrative has likely been overblown a bit in recent years, his most recent tenure with Boston was alarming to say the least. Dombrowksi entered the Red Sox organization in 2015 with them having the #1 ranked farm system in all of baseball, and departed in 2018 with them having the #22 ranked farm system.

Dombrowski’s aggressiveness upon arriving to Boston ultimately resulted in a World Series win, so it’s hard to argue with the effectiveness of said strategy, but he definitely left the team in a pretty brutal spot following his firing. Plenty have speculated that their poor farm system post-Dombrowski was one of the factors that led to them trading away Mookie Betts – as they felt they were spiraling towards a rebuild.

The Philadelphia Phillies don’t have a super impressive farm system, so it’s unknown how Dombrowski will approach that situation. It would surprise me to see him change ideologies and commit to building from within, especially with guys like Francisco Lindor, Josh Hader, and Blake Snell all reportedly being made available via trade. Current Philly prospects Bryson Stott and Mick Abel could very well be on the move if Dombrowski acts according to precedent.
