Despite adding one of the best man corners in all of football this past offseason (Darius Slay), the Philadelphia Eagles continue to experience an endless strain of cornerback woes. Guys like Cre’Von LeBlanc and Nickell Robey-Coleman have massively underperformed operating in the slot, Avonte Maddox routinely gets dunked on on the outside, and the team effectively has zero young players to turn some reps over to.

While releasing Sidney Jones and Rasul Douglas somewhat made sense at the time, their departure from the Eagles CB room has likely done more harm than good.

With all that mind, finally addressing the CB2 position would do wonders for Philly’s secondary this offseason. With Slay likely to be around for the next few seasons due to his contract, pairing him up with an elite coverage corner like Patrick Surtain II makes a ton of sense.

Surtain II had 2 interceptions and 8 passes defensed last collegiate season, and has started off 2020 operating in a similar form. He has outstanding ball skills and elite physicality, and his 6-2 frame would be a welcome sight to a severely undersized Eagles secondary.

Not only would Surtain II and Slay make up a formidable cornerback partnership for 1-2 years, but the Eagles would also lock in their CB1 of the future.
