Zach Eflin, RHP ($4.45 million) and Rhys Hoskins, 1B (arbitration)

Lumping these last two together due to the obviousness of it, but both Zach Eflin and Rhys Hoskins are now locked into 2021 contracts with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Eflin’s return price was a bit surprising, as it was on the low side considering how well he played down the stretch this past season. He looks set to finally blossom into the team’s #3 starter, and he likely could’ve commanded a larger contract. Eflin should probably look into hiring a better agent, but John Middleton is undoubtedly ecstatic to see the former first-round pick return for less than $5 million.

Rhys Hoskins will enter arbitration with the Phillies this offseason, as the two sides look to agree upon a number for the 2021 season. Hoskins is coming off elbow surgery, and hopes to return to his oft-talked about 2018 form.

He showed some flashes of it prior to his injury 2020, but needs to put it all together for a full 162 games, especially with Gregorius and Realmuto potentially departing.

Like stated earlier in the article, all of these contacts appear fine on paper. Personally, I would’ve preferred the team move on from some of their failed developmental projects, and turn their attention towards some key non-tendered free agents. However, with Middleton looking to reduce payroll, it’s not all that surprising to see him push for re-signing familiar names to small contracts.
