Adeiny Hechavarria, INF

It’s no secret that the Phillies could use some middle infield help this offseason. Didi Gregorius is all but gone at the moment, and Scott Kingery is a projection at best currently. Jean Segura was acquired as a shortstop back in 2019, but he looked far more comfortable at second base this past season.

The team could roll with Segura back at short and Kingery at second, but that could very easily result in disaster. The team has been linked to big name free agents like Marcus Semien, but ultimately, it seems unlikely that the team would splurge on an expensive shortstop if they don’t want to pay Didi.

With that in mind, bringing in veteran journeyman Adeiny Hechavarria could be the perfect play. He’s been a plug-and-play infielder for the majority of his eight year career, but he’s done so at a high level.

He hit .292 with an .828 OPS playing for the Braves the last two years, and he filled in at shortstop, second base, and third base. Talk about versatility.

Hechavarria would likely come at an extremely cheap price, and could provide some middle infield depth behind Segura and Kingery should one of them struggle. At the very worst, the Phillies would get an extremely solid bench bat while simultaneously weakening the Braves.
