10 infielders the Philadelphia Phillies could target in the offseason

Kolten Wong, 2B
2020 Team: St Louis Cardinals
2020 Salary: $10.25 million
Circling back to the idea that the Philadelphia Phillies could target a second baseman this offseason as opposed to a shortstop, Kolten Wong fits the bill of what the team would likely target. An eight year veteran who has spent the entirety of his MLB career with the Cardinals, Wong actually saw his team-option declined following the conclusion of the shortened 2020 season.
It came as a bit of a surprise with how long he’s been with the Cardinals, but considering the crashing revenue that is happening around the league, Wong was just another victim.
Wong has been steady throughout the majority of his career, but nothing ever too special. His career OPS sits at .717, and he’s never hit over .285 in a single season.
Similar to that of Andrelton Simmons, a majority of Wong’s value comes from his defense, as he’s secured Gold Glove awards in both 2019 and 2020.
Wong is a tenured veteran who’s exclusively played second base the last four years, so the Philadelphia Phillies would have to feel pretty confident in Segura’s ability to slide back to shortstop. Wong definitely improves the Phillies defense on paper, and considering how frugal teams are set to be this offseason, he would likely come at a very affordable price.
