Andrelton Simmons, SS

2020 Team: Los Angeles Angels

2020 Salary: $15 million

Despite Segura and Gregorius ultimately creating a solid defensive duo up the middle of the infield, the Philadelphia Phillies overall defense still ranked towards the bottom of the MLB. Alec Bohm was shaky at third base, Rhys Hoskins has never been one for defense, and the constant shuffling of players at 2B resulted in some less-than-stellar defensive play.

If the Phillies are hell bent on improving their defense this offseason, Andrelton Simmons would be the guy to get.

A 4x Gold Glove winner and 1x Platinum Glove winner, Simmons has made a name for himself as one of the best defensive shortstops in all of baseball. He even won the “Wilson Overall Defensive Player of the Year” award in 2015, naming him the best defensive player in all of baseball.

Simmons has never been one for offense, as his career OPS sits just below .700. However, he is legitimately dynamic when it comes to his glove. He’s long been a valued player on the LA Angels, and opposing teams have taken notice of his efforts.

Similar to that of Semien, snagging Simmons on a 1-2 year deal could prove to be a decent enough stopgap as the Phillies await Bryson Stott’s debut.

*Simmons opted out halfway through the 2020 season, which could also help see his value decrease on the open market*
