2. Selecting J.J Arcega Whiteside over D.K Metcalf

Okay, this is a decision that will haunt Howie Roseman and Philadelphia Eagles fans for a very long time.

As a fan of Pac-12 after dark, I watched a ton of JJ Arcega Whiteside play at Stanford. All that guy did was go up over Pac-12 defenders and just box them out and come down with the football. His ability to “go up and get it” was outstanding, and it jumped off the screen when you were watching him play. Heck, it helped him produce 14 touchdowns and over 1000 yards during his senior season in 2018.

Here is the thing though, there wasn’t much else he was good at during his time at Stanford. He wasn’t a burner, he wasn’t a relatively good route runner, and it is not as if he was playing against any premium college football defenses out west. Yes the Pac-12 is a Power 5 conference, but lets be real, it is a far cry from the Alabama’s and the Clemson’s of the world.

On the other hand, DK Metcalf was a rather unknown in the sense of he wasn’t exactly a huge star during his time at Ole Miss. His best season saw him produce 646 receiving yards and seven touchdowns as a redshirt freshman in 2017. However, he was playing in the SEC and was just a youngster at 20 years old.

His combine was also absolutely ridiculous as he produced an absurd 4.33 40 yard dash, 27 reps of 225 on bench press, and an insane 40.5 inch vertical leap. He did all of this at 6-4, 225 pounds. He showed he was a freak of nature. Many people believed he was potentially a “workout warrior” and was not much of a football player. Sadly, Howie Roseman is one of those boneheads who had that thought in their mind.

Less than two years later, and this move could not look any worse. Not only has  Arcega-Whiteside been arguably the worst wide receiver in the entire NFL; as he’s produced 12 receptions for 214 yards in 23 NFL games. But Metcalf has become one of the best in the NFL. His rookie season saw him catch 58 balls for 900 yards and seven touchdowns. 2020 has seen him take his game to an entirely different level as he has 36 catches for 680 yards and seven touchdowns!

Could you imagine him in midnight green?! Jeez. Makes me sick to my stomach thinking about that. Needless to say, the Seattle Seahawks found themselves a great one.

Oh, and don’t forget that Metcalf went absolutely bonkers against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card round last year; where he caught seven balls for 160 yards and a touchdown. Yeah, this one is going to hurt for a long time.
