Since winning Super Bowl 52, Philadelphia Eagles GM Howie Roseman has been shaky at best.

When the Philadelphia Eagles reached the pinnacle of the football world (winning Super Bowl 52 in February of 2018), the thought was that this was the beginning of a potential dynasty. Head coach Doug Pederson famously claimed this was the “new norm” during the championship parade.

Naturally, many fans bought into this, as they believed the Eagles had found the formula to success.

Since that wonderful 2017 season, the Philadelphia Eagles have been more of a roller coaster than anything else; and not just any roller coaster, whatever the craziest most unpredictable roller coaster in the world is, the Eagles could give it a run for its money.

While he hit on nearly every single move prior to that Super Bowl season, Howie Roseman has certainly had his struggles since than. Here are three moves I am sure he wishes he could re-do if he was given the chance:

3. Signing Alshon Jeffrey to a massive extension

When the Philadelphia Eagles signed wide receiver Alshon Jeffery in March of 2017 to a one-year/$13 million dollar deal, excitement was near an all time high. The need to provide young franchise quarterback Carson Wentz with a number one receiver was paramount, and that first season, Alshon was exactly that. In fact he was so good, that Howie Roseman decided to hand the 27 year old a four-year/$52 million dollar extension in December of that season, which runs through the 2021 season.

Jeffery played an enormous role in the Eagles winning their first Super Bowl. His 2017 season saw him catches 57 balls for 789 yards and nine touchdowns. He also made arguably one of the best catches in Super Bowl history for a touchdown, and finished that game with three catches for 73 yards (including that touchdown.)

2018 was another pretty strong season for number 17, as he hauled in 65 balls for 843 yards and six scores in 13 games. Had he played all 16 games at the pace he was on, he would have eclipsed the 1000 yard mark. Unfortunately, his 2018 season is remembered most for his brutal drop which led to a season-ending interception during the Eagles divisional round match-up with the New Orleans Saints.

The bad mojo from that drop against the Saints has not gone away, as 2019 saw Alshon only catch 43 balls for 490 yards and four scores in ten games. His season ended prematurely due to a Lisfranc injury in his foot; and we have not seen the big wide receiver since.

His $15.39 million cap hit for 2020 is the 6th highest among wide receivers in the NFL. Higher than guys like Odell Beckham Jr, Tyler Lockett, Amari Cooper, and Stefon Diggs; just to name a few. Simply put, this extension has been a nightmare and is one that is severely hindering the Philadelphia Eagles ability to do much to improve their roster. This move will easily go down as one of the worst throughout Howie Roseman’s second tenure as the Eagles’ general manager.
