Dante Pettis

Current team: San Francisco 49ers

Dante Pettis was floated around in some trade rumors during the offseason, and it doesn’t seem like his status with the San Francisco 49ers has changed all that much seven weeks into the regular season. The Niners have invested heavily into the WR position during the last two drafts (Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk), and it just doesn’t appear like Pettis is in the team’s future plans.

Pettis has only started in 11 games for the Niners since getting drafted, and he’s been largely unproductive during those starts.

The super intriguing part about Pettis is that he’s only in the third year of his four-year rookie contract. For a team that is pressed right up against the cap in 2021, getting a cheap and controllable wide receiver is a fairly big deal.

Considering how little the 49ers have used him this season, he would likely come at a dirt cheap price as well.

In all honesty, the Philadelphia Eagles don’t necessarily need an upgrade at WR. It’s definitely not their biggest need at the moment. Fulgham is an enigma, Ward is reliable in the slot, Hightower has started to get into a rhythm, and Jalen Reagor is set to return to action this Sunday against Dallas.

At some point, just rolling with the youth and letting them develop alongside Carson Wentz is the best plan of action.
