Philadelphia Eagles: 10 potential trades to make before the deadline
By David Esser
Splashing big on Joe Thuney.
On the flip side, if the Philadelphia Eagles don’t feel comfortable in their offensive line getting back up to par upon the return of Seumalo and Peters, they could look to push the needle in way of landing a big time interior lineman.
Joe Thuney has been pretty regularly mentioned in potential trade talks this season, as he is playing on the franchise tag and it doesn’t seem like he has any intentions of remaining in New England longterm. The Patriots also appear to be trending towards a rebuild (they’re reportedly shopping Stephon Gilmore), and moving Thuney away for some draft picks would definitely aid them in their longterm plans.
Thuney wouldn’t come at a cheap asking price, as he is legitimately one of the best guards in all of football. At minimum a third round pick would likely need to be involved, and then you have to factor in the financial implications of paying Thuney’s salary for the remainder of the season.
Howie Roseman and the Philadelphia Eagles only make this move if they feel super good about their chances to contend in 2020, and relatively bad about Seumalo’s/Peter’s ability to come back and play at a high level.
