Denzel Perryman

Current team: Los Angeles Chargers

Another impending free agent who has seen his role within the defense all but completely evaporate, Denzel Perryman is a savvy veteran who would come at a very cheap price.

When healthy, Perryman had been a staple within the Los Angeles Chargers defense, starting in 45 of his 61 total games played. He’s battled injuries quite a bit during his career however, which is what ultimately led to the Chargers re-investing into their LB depth chart. They drafted Drue Tranquill in 2019, and then traded up for first-round LB Kenneth Murray this past offseason.

Both Murray and Tranquill project to be plus starters for LAC moving forward, which likely means Perryman won’t be around in 2021 regardless.

Perryman was mentioned as a potential offseason trade candidate, but ultimately nothing got done due to the large dead cap number that LAC would eat upon a trade ($6.5 million). However, considering the Chargers shaky start to the 2020 season, they could now be more inclined to eat some of that salary if it meant a late-round draft pick would be coming back in return.

Perryman hasn’t played a lot this season, only logging 17 total tackles thus far, but he is unquestionably a better option than Gerry or Riley.
