Kyler Murray, DeAndre Hopkins, and Zach Ertz creates a deadly trio.

Initially proposed by ESPN, a hypothetical move between the Arizona Cardinals and the Philadelphia Eagles for Ertz makes a lot of sense, for both sides.

For starters, the Cardinals get to surround their blossoming quarterback with yet another exciting weapon. The team was quick to pull the trigger on a DeAndre Hopkins trade this past offseason, giving Kyler Murray a legitimate #1 option on the outside. While that partnership has been quick to pay off here in 2020, the Cardinals offense is still far from being complete.

Arizona is 3-2 at the moment, but they actually have one of the worst performing offenses in the league in terms of DVOA. Murray has struggled with interceptions, and the team doesn’t look nearly as fluid as previously expected. Acquiring someone of Ertz’ caliber gives Murray a “safety blanket” over the middle of the field, while also taking some double-teams away from Hopkins on the outside.

Arizona doesn’t have a second-round pick in the upcoming draft due to the DHOP trade, but they still own their third-rounder, which is right about where I’m projecting Ertz’ value to be at the moment.
