3. Trick plays to manufacture easy offense

If we’re being honest, the Philadelphia Eagles made things harder on themselves than they needed it to be.

Outside of that one beautiful 55-yard bomb to Jalen Reagor, a play we’ve seen plenty of times targeted to everyone from Torrey Smith to Nelson Agholor since 2016, the Eagles’ offense looked laborious from the second quarter on, with nary a big play to write home about.

In Week 2, that needs to change.

With a slew of new offensive options across the roster, and the old reliable pairing of Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert at tight end, there have to be ways to manufacture easy offense via some good old fashioned trickery, right? Whether that be utilizing Greg Ward’s quarterback past on a well-timed flea flicker, giving Reagor a running start to pick up yards on a jet sweep, or even just mixing up who lines up where with a tight end hugging the perimeter, or Miles Sanders kicked out in the slot, giving defenses exotic looks forces players to think on the fly.

And you know what they say when a player is thinking on the fly: They aren’t reading and reacting.

While maintaining a solid stable of staple plays for any given offense is key to developing a strong offensive culture, adding new wrinkles each week makes any team harder to defeat, all the while forcing future opponents down the line to commit valuable practice time preparing for a seldom used play like the Philly Special. That creativity, when mixed with a quicker, hybrid passing/running game, and more time to execute the offense via increased 3-and-outs could do wonders for the Philadelphia Eagles’ chances to squeak out a win in Week 2 over the team that ended Carson Wentz’s playoff run before it even began in 2017.
